For a change Springvale City’s fate was in their own hands as they took on 5th placed Warragul in Round 22 – the last game of the season and the decider for 2nd spot along with promotion to State 3 S/E on the line! It was always going to be interesting day as Southern Suburbs were level on points with City before the Round started and were desperately hoping Springvale would slip up whilst they beat Riversdale. Well the exact opposite occurred to the joy of the Springvale City players, coach & supporters. After a slow start and many agonising moments Springy produced a remarkable come back from 0-2 to defeat a determined Warragul side 4-2 whilst Southern Suburbs ended up losing 2-3 to Riversdale with Springvale City promoted to State 3 S/E!! Congratulations to everyone involved at the club, in particular the players and coach, to turn around a slow start to the season.

Can Springy get promoted?

Image What a day! One that I, along with the players, coach and supporters will remember for a long time especially if we get promoted next week. Springvale City pretty much had the same starting XI as usual for the crucial match against Rowville who were desperately trying to get some points to avoid relegation. One of the main reasons for City's success in the second half of the season has been a consistent team and not too many injuries/suspensions.

I would just like to say to anyone who has been keeping an eye on the club web site apologies for no updates for 2 months now! As I was overseas on holiday unfortunately no one else put their hand up to help the club out which is VERY disappointing. I will try my best to have a few updates now and then but no promises....
Easy win for Springvale

ImageCity had a day out on Carrum's home turf in what was a must win game as most games are from hereon for Springy. Springvale had a strong looking squad for the match with a couple of new additions, Selim and Tasim, who recently joined from Div 1 side Dandenong Thunder.

Within 9 minutes City were 3-0 up and playing fantastic football with the Carrum players looking stunned. Youngster Haris was doing a lot of damage on the left wing with Elvedin also causing the Carrum defence all sorts of problems. The first goal was tucked away comfortably by speedy striker Elvedin, whilst Haris also scored with a pin point shot and City's other striker Asmir also joined in the goal fest with an easy tap in after some good work by Elvedin yet again. In form goalkeeper Yahia had a field day with Carrum playing some speculative long balls forward, which he took with ease.

Solid win over Brandon Park

Saturday, 03 June 2006
ImageSpringvale City came up against a determined Brandon Park side in Round 8 and took all 3 points in a very intense and physical clash. It was obvious from the start of the match that it would be physical with both sides going in very hard for the ball and it would remain that way throughout. City, now almost back to full strength, had that extra bit of polish when it counted and young skillful striker Elvedin scored the opener after taking on a defender and beating the keeper with a low crisp shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net. With a 1-0 lead the City defence, which had previously been shaky, stood up to whatever Brandon Park could throw at it with goal keeper Yahia being a colossus at the back. This was exemplified by his magnificent penalty save after Emir had brought down a Brandon Park striker just inside the box.

City bounce back
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 25 May 2006
Image Springvale City finally bounced back after a difficult month or so but it wasn't easy as Riversdale put in a determined performance themselves. In the 1st half City went up 1-0 through an Osman Berk curler where he beautifully guided the ball in from outside the 18 yard box. However, the recent trend continued with another mistake in defence, which Riversdale punished to go into half time 1-1 despite City having the better of the 1st half.

City denied yet again
Written by Administrator

ImageSpringvale City were denied the 3 pts yet again in Round 6 despite dominating the game against Doveton at home. In a frantic finish to the game City threw away a 4-2 lead to only come away with a dramatic 4-4 draw against Doveton. A combination of poor defending and a lack of concentration cost Springvale in the end to what should have been a relatively straight forward victory.

City led 2-1 at half time thanks to goals from Matt and Elvedin and increased the lead to 3-1 early in the 2nd half. Doveton then fought back to make it 3-2 before Asmir put City back in the driving seat at 4-2. However, in the final 10 minutes Doveton scored twice including a dramatic equaliser by their goalkeeper in the 92 minute after heading home a corner. City will look to finally break this bad run against Riversdale this Saturday.
